ABOUT US

The City of Port Wentworth has a combination Fire Department consisting of five (5) paid personnel and twenty (20) volunteers.  Currently, our stations are staffed during the hours of  7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, seven days a week.  Volunteers devote their time to answer calls after hours.

The Port Wentworth Fire Department responds to all fire, rescue, and medical calls within our fire district.  We cover the Georgia Ports Authority berths 6, 7, and 8 as well as the warehouse district across from Station 2. All industries located along the Savannah River from Georgia Ports to the Houilahan Bridge, including Dixie Sugar and Weyerhaeuser are in our coverage area.  We also are the priority department for Gulfstream Road up to Robert B Miller Road.

We have two (2) fire stations.  The headquarters is located at 317 Cantyre Street.  This consists of the main operation offices along with a three-bay station.  This station houses a 2006 Pierce Contender class A Pumper, a 1988 Beam Class A pumper, a command vehicle, and a first responder unit.

Station Two is also a three-bay station and is located at 6721 Highway 21, which is one mile east of Interstate 95.  Placed at this station are a 1995 E-One International Class A Pumper, a 1998 International heavy rescue truck, and a 1961 Dodge tanker that contains over 5,800 gallons of water.

In planning for our future, we are actively seeking volunteers who are willing to devote their time and energy into the preservation of their community.

The Port Wentworth Fire Department personnel meet at Headquarters every Tuesday night at 7:00 PM.  We also meet one (1) Saturday each month for training to allow those with a conflicting work schedule to attend.

We will be offering fire extinguisher training very soon.  We also take blood pressure readings every Monday at 11:00 AM at the Senior’s Citizens Center.  If you need to contact this department for any non-emergency, you may call us at (912) 966-7425.  In the event we are not in station, a voice mail system is in place.   Please contact us if we may be of any assistance.
